Youth Tickets Half-Price! Miss USA Preliminaries held Friday-Saturday

(Media release) Every young girl who has ever dreamed of becoming MISS USA® has an opportunity to see what the competition is really like by buying a half-price ticket for the Miss Georgia USA® and Miss Georgia Teen USA® pageants to be hosted at the Woodland Performing Arts Center this Friday and Saturday evening in Cartersville.  Tickets are available for the Preliminary Show on Friday at 7 p.m. for $30 each.  Youth ages 13 & under are admitted for just $15.   The Miss Georgia Teen USA® Final Show will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Miss Georgia USA® Final Show at 8 p.m. where Cassady Lance, the reigning Miss Georgia USA®, and Caroline Wade, Miss Georgia Teen USA®, will crown their successors.  Final Show tickets are $35.00, with youth tickets available for $17.50; Visa and MasterCard accepted.  A $2 service charge will be applied to the price of each ticket purchased with credit card.  "We are happy that Greenwood Productions honored our request to make the pageant affordable for families and youth who want to see what these great events are all about," said Host City Chairman Ellen Archer.  "We know the public will be delighted with the quality productions that mirror the MISS USA and MISS TEEN USA pageants as seen on NBC."Call the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau to reserve your seats, 9 a.m-4 p.m. Monday-Friday 770-387-1357.  Remaining tickets may also be purchased at the pageant events.  Proceeds from ticket sales benefit pageant license holder Greenwood Productions, Inc.

City of Cartersville announces zoning revisions

(Media Release) In September, the Cartersville City Council voted to approve revisions to the Zoning Ordinance, including changes in the list of new allowed commercial uses. The changes are based on the 2030 Comprehensive Plan, research of other comparable Georgia cities, City Attorney comments, input from the Zoning Ordinance stakeholders committee, and comments from the Planning Commission and City Council. 
 
Check cashing stores, fortune tellers, kennels, pawn shops and title pawn stores are now only allowed in the G-C (General Commercial) zoning district. Properties zoned G-C are typically located on Joe Frank Harris Parkway (U.S. Highway 41).
 
Day care facilities in the City of Cartersville are defined as institutions licensed or registered by the State of Georgia for seven (7) or more persons. Day care facilities are allowed in commercial zoning districts, and the owner/operator must obtain a City occupational tax certificate (business license). New day care facilities proposing to operate in residential zoning districts must first obtain a Special Use permit from the City.
 
Family day care in the City is defined as a home occupation in which care is provided for six (6) or fewer persons. Family day care is allowed in residential zoning districts, and the owner/operator must obtain a City occupational tax certificate (business license). Dec. 11: Cowboy Santa at Booth Western Art Museum

(Media release) The Booth Western Art Museum will host Member Appreciation Day on Saturday, December 11, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Held each December, this special day to recognize and thank the Booth membership consists of a free lunch in the Booth Café, special discounts in The Store, children's activities throughout the Museum and special family-oriented programming in the Booth Theatre. New this year, the Booth Museum is hosting a Breakfast with Cowboy Santa from 9:00-10:30 am, which is also open to the general public.

"Membership in the Booth Museum is critical to fund our educational programs and exhibits, so we host this event once per year as a way to say 'thank you' to those who support us by being a member," said Membership Manager Karen Mahoney. Member Appreciation Day activities will take place throughout the Museum. Activities for the children include making a Christmas tree ornament and a photography composition activity. Programming in the Booth Theatre includes John Mariana discussing the life and career of Ansel Adams at 11:30 am, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, and A Pioneer Christmas with Laura Ingles Wilder at 10:30 am, 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm. Members will also be able enjoy a delicious free lunch in the Booth Café, and take advantage of some special pricing in the Booth Store.

"In addition to the member-only benefits offered throughout the day, we are excited to announce our first ever Breakfast with Cowboy Santa. This event, is also open to not-yet members, and will be a unique, fun way for the entire family to get into the Christmas spirit. We hope to see members come early to partake in the delicious breakfast, but also invite not-yet members to join us, dine with Cowboy Santa, and enjoy everything else that the Booth Museum has to offer."

Breakfast with Cowboy Santa will be held in the holiday decorated Booth Ballroom, and will give children the opportunity to enjoy their meal with Cowboy Santa. Additionally, guests are encouraged to bring their cameras to take pictures. The breakfast will consist of eggs, bacon, sausage and gravy biscuits, pancakes, cheese grits, bagels and cream cheese, orange juice, milk and coffee. Two Bartow Co. Residents Arrested for Stolen Property

 
(Media Release) Two Bartow County residents were arrested in connection with theft by receiving stolen property.

Derek Grant Southern Jr., age 18 of 5659 Groovers Landing Road Lot 15, and  Dustin Jerral Johnson , age 17 of 5294 Pine Circle both in Acworth.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap an Acworth resident reported two antique motorcycle engines stolen between October 25 and 26, 2010. Both engines were valued at $850.00. Parts of the engines were found at Taylors Junk Yard on October 29, 2010.

The parts were traced back to a third party female who advised Investigators that Southern and Johnson needed to get rid of the engines for scrap metal but that they did not have a photo identification (required by law to sell scrap metal)  to present to the junk yard. The female agreed to take them to the junk yard.

Southern was arrested on Tuesday November 09, 2010 and was released on November 10, 2010 after posting a $5,000.00 bond.

Johnson was arrested on November 10, 2010 and is currently being held at the Bartow County Jail pending a $5,000.00 bond.

Both subjects were charged with one count of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.

 

Two Bartow Co. Residents Arrested for Burglary

(Media Release) Two Bartow County residents were arrested in connection with a residential Burglary and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
 

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, Jamey Paul Inman, age 34 of 153 Roving Hills Drive Cartersville, and  Anthony Marion Wade, age 19 of 426 Highway 61 Cartersville were involved in a Burglary at 426 Highway 61 of an outbuilding that does not belong  to the accused.

 

A Cartersville resident reported several firearms stolen between November 01 and November 06, 2010. The firearms were valued at $1,020.00. One of the firearms was recovered at Cartersville Pawn and Shop on November 08, 2010. The firearm was sold to the pawn shop by Mr. Inman.

 

Upon further investigation it was determined that Anthony Wade had entered the building without permission and had taken several of the firearms and dispersed them for sale. 

 

Jamey Inman was already being held in the Bartow County Jail for unrelated charges and warrants were taken on November 10, 2010 for one count of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property and one count of Theft by Deception.

 

Anthony Wade was arrested on November 11, 2010 and charged with one count of Residential Burglary and one count of Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

 

Inman is currently being held in the Bartow County Jail pending a $17,450.00 bond. Wade is currently being held in the Bartow County Jail pending a $12,500.00 bond.
