Chattahoochee Tech International Festival Right Around the Corner

Media release: Chattahoochee Technical College will be celebrating and honoring the rich diversity of its students April 16-18 with various events, performances, programs and opportunities at its Marietta and North Metro campuses. Since 2002, the college has held a yearly festival to celebrate and highlight the cultural diversity found among its student population. This year's festival is free and open to the public.

"In our quest to help our students become global citizens, it's an important concept for our students to understand the diversity in the world around them," said Greg Moor, International Services and International Center Coordinator at Chattahoochee Technical College. "A big part of that is making sure students know that it is good to be understanding and tolerant of other cultures through exposure and experiences like this. The festival helps bring that message home."

The annual event has grown recently from a one day event to now three days of educational and cultural experiences for the more than 11,000 students at Chattahoochee Technical College. Returning this year will be yoga and meditation sessions that will be geared toward helping students, faculty and staff learn how to reach their highest potential with techniques that can be practiced anywhere. Other events this year include, salsa dancing lessons, student skits, Bollywood dancer, international cuisine, Henna art, African drummers, Kimono dressing, a mariachi band, Brazillian dancers and much more.

With the largest and most diverse population of international students of any of Georgia's 25 technical colleges, Chattahoochee Technical College currently enrolls more than 100 foreign born students, representing more than 50 countries.

The International Center provides services that support the college's non-immigrant, international, permanent resident, exchange, and foreign-born student population. It provides pre-admission to post-graduation assistance. Programs that support the international community and international initiatives are directed through the International Center/International Services.

March 30: Silver anniversary party for Bartow History Museum

Media release: On April 7, 1987, the Etowah Historical Museum, now known as the Bartow History Museum, opened its doors. Over the past 25 years, the Museum has grown, moved a few times, collected and preserved thousands of historic artifacts, documents, and photographs, created a variety of exhibits and programs, and much more. Yet, the central mission of the museum to preserve Bartow County's rich history and educate the public has remained unchanged. Also unchanged is the support and commitment given by the community, our members, and donors.

In celebration of this historic milestone, the Bartow History Museum is hosting a Silver Anniversary Party on Friday, March 30, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Open to the public, attendees are invited to show their support of the museum, enjoy food and fellowship, as well as be the first to see the Museum's new exhibition, "Bartow's Treasures: 25 Years of Collecting, Preserving, and Educating." Tickets are $50 and include heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. There will also be special raffle prizes given away that evening, including a Sony tablet, a 26" flat screen television, and framed historic artwork. Raffle tickets are $15 each or 3 for $40.
