400-plus take part in Chattahoochee Technical College Career and College Fair

Media release: More than 400 students, alumni and community members turned out at the Chattahoochee Technical College Career and College Fair Thursday – the largest turnout yet for such an event. Co-hosted with the Cartersville office of the Georgia Department of Labor, the event featured more than 60 employers and colleges.

"We're hearing positive things from both the employers and the job seekers," said Career Services Coordinator Lucylle Shelton. "This opportunity was one that brought together employers and job seekers in a one on one setting. We hope that some great connections were made."

Companies such as Fox5 Atlanta, CNN, City of Woodstock, United Medical Response, Carolina Handling, The Home Depot, Kaiser Permanente, Medline Industries, CarMax, Shaw Industries and others will be set up tables for the event. Openings for full-time, part-time, seasonal and temporary work were discussed with students and community members of all majors and backgrounds.

Most of the companies had multiple positions open and were interviewing people on the spot, according to Career Services Specialist Melissa Day, who estimated that the event was 30 percent larger than any other career fair held.

"Employers' remarks about the event were very positive," said Day. "One even referred to it as very well run and one of the best the company had experienced."

Chattahoochee Technical College offers career services information on each of its eight campuses. The department focuses on assessing career choices for individuals, exploring occupations and opportunities for rewarding educational and vocational paths and assisting students in implementing a career decision and developing a plan of action.
