Explosion rocks Georgia Power's Plant Bowen; No major injuries

-GA Power officials are investigating the cause of the incident that happened around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

-Officials say the explosion happened as Coal Unit #2 was being taken down for maintenance.

-Total of four minor injuries

-Officials say all the plant's power generating units are now shutdown while the incident is being investigated, however, there will be no disruption to power service.

-We'll continue to bring you the latest developments today.

 

More rain possible today, but sunshine coming for weekend.
-Friday: 60% rain chance, high of 65, low of 39.
-Saturday: Sunny, high of 74, low of 46.
-Sunday: Sunny, high of 75, low of 53.  

 

Rome Braves' start season in the WIN column after topping Savannah, 5-3 on Thursday.

-April 27-28: Spring at the Homestead at Red Top Mountain from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. This living history event shows what life was like for soldiers and civilians during the Civil War.
