Shorter earns another 'Best in the Southeast' honor from Princeton Review: Princeton Review Best College in the Southeast seal for 2010 Shorter College has been named a "Best in the Southeast" college by The Princeton Review for the fifth consecutive year. The Princeton Review 's rankings are based on the results of data received from administrators at colleges and universities across the nation, as well as on answers provided to an 80-question survey given to students at those schools. -Radio remote tags up with Facebook: Longtime Northwest Georgia radio personality Bob Shannon tried something new Thursday morning. Shannon, host of the morning show on Mix 104.5 FM in Dalton, was live on location at the Chick-Fil-A on Walnut Street. Clad in cow PJs, Shannon was urging listeners to stop by in their jammies to get a free Chick breakfast. What was different: Using his laptop, Shannon also was pounding away to Facebook friends, urging them to stop by as well. "It was great," says Shannon. "It really exploded" on Facebook. Shannon also was able to chat with friends in Rome and Cedartown who remembered him from his on local radio. Plus, he says, he could quickly communication with colleagues back at the station on technical issues.

-Gingrey meets with Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou:  From Taiwan News: "During a brief meeting at the Presidential Office with U.S. Congressman Phil Gingrey (R-GA), who co-chairs the U.S. Congressional Taiwan Caucus, Ma said that his administration's continuous efforts since last May to improve relations with Beijing has brought about a dawn of peace across the Taiwan Strait and has also made U.S.-Taiwan security ties "easier and simpler" to maintain." > Gingrey

-United Community Banks declares quarterly dividend: United Community Banks, Georgia's third-largest bank holding company, announced that its Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend that will be paid in shares of common stock on Oct. 1 to shareholders of record as of Sept. 10. Each shareholder will receive one new share of common stock for every 130 shares held.
