The Bartow County Sheriff's Office receives a $110,000 grant for equipment
(Media Release) The Bartow County Sheriff's Office recently was awarded a grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council.
Sheriff Millsap said the department received $110,000.00 in grant money, which provided money to purchase equipment to enhance the day to day operations of the department. Forty Stop Sticks were purchased to aid officers involved in high speed chases. The sticks can be used to end dangerous vehicle chases.
In addition, the department used the provided grant monies for the purchase of a speed awareness monitor. The radar monitor can be set up in areas where traffic complaints are a problem, but the roadway has not been permitted by the department of transportation to run radar.
The monitor will be used to gather data, which will be used to apply for radar permits for problem roadways. Digital in car cameras and shotgun racks are among equipment also purchased for the department. The grant also provided funds for interview room cameras equipment for training and equipment to aid deputies assigned to the jail division.

(Media Release) The annual statewide Military Academy Day event will take place on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Atlanta from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The event will help familiarize students with the application and nomination process for applying to the nation's five service academies.
Representatives from all five academies will also be in attendance to explain more about their requirements and expectations and will be available to answer questions. The event is open to students grades eight through 12.
All individuals who are interested in attending must make a reservation by calling (770) 661-0999 or by registering online at www.isakson.senate.gov. All individuals who wish to attend must provide their phone number, date of birth, driver's license number, and total number of guests who will be in the car by the registration deadline on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 5 p.m.
