Jobs: Hope on the horizon?
-There's some rare good news regarding Georgia employment just a few months away, predicts Rajeev Dhawan, director of the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia State University. His latest predictions:
-More jobs: We'll see a net jobs gain of 5,000 jobs in the state in 2010. But next year, look for 60,000 jobs in all, including more than 18,000 higher-paying jobs. And: 2012 should be even better, says Dhawan, right. Full report here
-Dropping jobless rate: The state's jobless rate will hit 10.2 percent by year's end, dropping to 9.7 percent in 2011 and 9.2 percent in 2012. In July, the jobless rate ranged from 10.3 percent in Polk to 12.5 percent in Gordon with Floyd, Bartow and Chattooga in between.
-What we're watching: August and September reports thanks to recent layoffs.
