Northwest Georgia has a rough night ahead.
Just about all predictions call for severe weather overnight with an inch to two inches of rain. The Weather Channel's tornado index puts our risk level at 3 on a scale of 1-8 (lowest number, less chance).-Today: 50% chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 7 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. 
-Tonight: 100% chance of showers and thunderstorms; some of the storms could be severe and produce heavy rainfall. Low around 48. Rainfall amounts: 1 to 2 inches. 
-Saturday: 50% chance of showers. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 54. 
-Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 32. 


Senate District 52 GOP primary race erupts in Floyd: Ads placed in print and on radio opposing Floyd's SPLOST extension have been criticized by Senate District 52 hopeful Chad Whitefield who, in turn, has filed a state ethics complaint. -March 3: The first Rome Braves High School Invitational to be played at State Mutual Stadium. The event will feature two games; Armuchee vs. Pepperell at noon and Model vs. Coosa at 5:30 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the local baseball programs.

March 2: The Rome High Running Lady Wolves basketball team is competing in the AAAA playoff quarter-finals for the first time in school history.  Rome plays Miller Grove at 7 p.m. at the University of West Georgia.  Follow on Twitter,Facebook and online.

 

March 2, 3: Berry baseball and the weather:

-First pitch for Berry College's baseball game against Denison on Saturday has been pushed up to noon.  The game was originally scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

-The teams are also scheduled to face each other Friday at 7 p.m.  If they are unable to play Friday due to weather conditions (Denison also is scheduled to play at Emory Friday afternoon before coming to Berry), then they will play a doubleheader Saturday.

-Any schedule changes will be posted on BerryVikings.com as soon as possible.
