Lady Cats Ink Adairsville’s Bramblett

Cutline-1: "Shown seated from left are Bobby Joe Bramblett, father, Mallory Bramblett, and Sonia Bennett, mother. Standing from left are Brett Bramblett, brother, Meredith Barnhill, Adairsville High School Head Girls' Basketball Coach, Jim Williams, Georgia Northwestern Head Women's Basketball Coach, and Linda Greene, grandmother."

Cutline-2: "NJCAA Region XVII Women's Basketball Coach of the Year Jim Williams, right, speaks with Adairsville alum and newest Lady Cats signee Mallory Bramblett (Adairsville) shortly after her May signing at Adairsville High School (GA)."

(Adairsville, Georgia) – As one Adairsville alum who left her mark on Lady Cats basketball gets set to ink with four-year Toccoa Falls, it's Tiger Country that will once again provide Georgia Northwestern with another outside threat to help fill Emily Cole's place on the NJCAA hardwood.

Standing at 5-foot-5, Adairsville grad Mallory Bramblett has committed to playing her first year at NJCAA Region XVII defending champion Georgia Northwestern. "She's very unselfish and she is a great pass maker. The hustle and attitude we saw at an open workout recently was very eye-opening," said Lady Cats Head Women's Basketball Coach Jim Williams. "She's a team player and she really knows the game."

Cole, a Lady Cat captain and a former NJCAA All-Region shooting guard for Georgia Northwestern, will be signing a letter of intent to play in June to play for NCAA Division III Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, Georgia this fall.

As for the latest signee, the Lady Tiger four-year starter will begin her pursuit of an Occupational Therapy Assistant degree this fall at Georgia Northwestern. "I've heard great things from Emily (Cole) about the program and I feel we will have a ton of fun and have a chance at going far," said last year's double digit scorer for Adairsville. "Emily had a lot of success there and I think this year's group will have a real chance at that, too."

First picking up the basketball at eight years old, Bramblett played ball with mostly boys early on. "It was physical, but I really learned a lot and liked that style of game," said Bramblett. Rounding out the 2013 recruiting class for Georgia Northwestern are GHSA prep standouts 6-foot forward Caroline Long (Model) and 5-foot-10 Tiana Jones (Summerville).

Georgia Northwestern finished the 2012-13 season with a 15-10 mark. Williams was named the NJCAA's Region XVII Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. The NJCAA Region XVII title was vacated in 2013 leaving the Lady Cats as the defending champs once again from their capture of the 2012 title; a season crown that came complete with a trip to the district level of the NJCAA National Women's Basketball Tournament.

Bramblett will be learning from last year's NJCAA Region XVII All-First Team starters Kiarra Parks and Alyssa Nichelson. Parks, a Cleveland, Tennessee native, dropped in 11 points a game last season as a freshman. In her first year removed from her prep play at Georgia's Pepperell High School, Parks also pulled down four boards, dished out three assists, and stole two balls each outing. Nichelson, a Creekview High School (Canton, GA) alum, also added 11 points a pop on the season.

Tryouts and open workouts for the 2013-14 Lady Cats will be posted at BobcatsCountry.com. Chattahoochee Tech to offer majors-level Biology courses

Media Release: Chattahoochee Technical College recently announced the expansion of its biology class offerings to include the first ever majors-level biology course provided by a Technical College System of Georgia school. Spanning two semesters, Principles of Biology covers a wide range of topics, including biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, natural selection, botany and zoology.

Principles of Biology is the course that lays the foundation for virtually every other science course," said Chattahoochee Technical College Biology Instructor Dr. Juanita Forrester. "It is a prerequisite for most upper level courses."

The course joins a growing list of classes that are part of articulation agreements with local four-year colleges and universities, as well as private and independent institutions. Students can now complete all of the general education/core requirements for a four-year degree at one of Chattahoochee Technical College's eight campuses at a fraction of the cost. According to Forrester, the classes at Chattahoochee Technical College have many advantages beyond lower tuition costs.

"We provide the same course, but with far fewer students," said Forrester. "Biology students at CTC are guaranteed to have one-on-one attention, and instruction that is tailored to their needs.  By providing students with a strong background in general biology, we help ensure their success in later courses as they progress toward their science degree."

While the classes are smaller, the standards and rigor associated with the course are on par with the University System of Georgia equivalent, added Forrester. The class is designed to provide students with a firm grasp of concepts and scientific practice through lab sections of the course.

Currently the Principles of Biology courses are offered during the day at the North Metro Campus in Acworth. As the demand for the course increases, CTC will expand times and locations accordingly.

Leadership Bartow Alumni Association Hosts Breakfast with C.J. Stewart

Media Release- Leadership Bartow Alumni Association (LBAA) invites the community to attend breakfast with C.J. Stewart, former Chicago Cubs outfielder and founder of the nonprofit organization L.E.A.D. The event is Tuesday, June 11, and will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church. Because C.J. is a dynamic speaker with a worthwhile message about inspiring youth, LBAA is welcoming those who have not participated in Leadership Bartow to attend. Tickets are $12 for LBAA members and $15 for other guests.

Stewart grew up in one of Atlanta's most dangerous housing projects, Hollywood Courts. Although statistically the odds were not in his favor, Stewart used the sport of baseball to transcend statistics and become a compassionate, engaged member of society. The kindness of strangers in his community enabled him to play competitive baseball in high school, providing exposure to college programs. His talent and hard work resulted in a baseball scholarship to Georgia State University and eventually the opportunity to be drafted by the Chicago Cubs.

Having achieved great professional success and feeling appreciative of the supportive gifts he received from others in his childhood community, Stewart and his wife, Kelli, founded L.E.A.D. (Launch, Expose, Advise, Direct) in order to give back to inner city youth in Atlanta. L.E.A.D.'s mission is to create positive outcomes for at-risk, minority, inner-city youth by leveraging the

relationship between education, athletics and service.

"C.J. and Kelli Stewart have received numerous awards for their outstanding work with underprivileged youth," says LBAA Chairman Rick Kollhoff. "This is a great opportunity for our own community to learn more about assisting kids with great potential and little resources. We see a strong connection between the Stewarts' efforts and our own LBAA mission to actively pursue positive change through community leadership development."

Limited space is available and reservations are required. Contact Leslie McMillan, 770-382-1466 or leslie@cartersvillechamber.com, to reserve your space.

Coomer Seeks Sponsors to help State Champion Adairsville High team go to Nationals

Media release: On March 23, for the second year in a row, the Adairsville High School TeamWorks Construction Competition Team won the Georgia SkillsUSA Championship. The team will compete for the National SkillsUSA Competition title the week of June 22 in Kansas City, Missouri. The team is seeking sponsors to help defray the expenses of the trip.

Rep. Christian Coomer, whose District 14 includes Adairsville, is especially proud of the hard work and dedication of the Club and is asking for your consideration as a sponsor for the trip. The National competition trip will cost the team approximately $6000. All sponsorships are tax deductible.

"Our own local Lowe's center was so impressed with one of last year's TeamWorks graduates that they hired him right after the competition. That's a goal we can all appreciate and support. This is a very worthwhile project and I urge you to do whatever you can to encourage these students by helping them to compete in the National Championship," said Coomer.

SkillsUSA is a national, nonprofit student organization that has developed more than 10 million workers through active partnerships between employers and educators. Hundreds of American industries have turned to SkillsUSA as the source for employees who exemplify "Champions at Work" in both skills and attitudes. At the heart of this mission are SkillsUSA's core values: integrity, responsibility, citizenship, service, and respect. SkillsUSA Georgia is focused to serve high school students involved in Architecture, Construction, Communication, Cosmetology, Public Safety, and Transportation pathways.

For more information on how you can help, please call Coomer's office at 770-383-9171.
