Principles of Biology is the course that lays the foundation for virtually every other science course," said Chattahoochee Technical College Biology Instructor Dr. Juanita Forrester. "It is a prerequisite for most upper level courses."
The course joins a growing list of classes that are part of articulation agreements with local four-year colleges and universities, as well as private and independent institutions. Students can now complete all of the general education/core requirements for a four-year degree at one of Chattahoochee Technical College's eight campuses at a fraction of the cost. According to Forrester, the classes at Chattahoochee Technical College have many advantages beyond lower tuition costs.
"We provide the same course, but with far fewer students," said Forrester. "Biology students at CTC are guaranteed to have one-on-one attention, and instruction that is tailored to their needs. By providing students with a strong background in general biology, we help ensure their success in later courses as they progress toward their science degree."
While the classes are smaller, the standards and rigor associated with the course are on par with the University System of Georgia equivalent, added Forrester. The class is designed to provide students with a firm grasp of concepts and scientific practice through lab sections of the course.
Currently the Principles of Biology courses are offered during the day at the North Metro Campus in Acworth. As the demand for the course increases, CTC will expand times and locations accordingly.
