Dec. 10: The Atlanta Pops Orchestra to perform at The Grand Theatre

Media release: The Century Bank Entertainment Series at The Grand Theatre continues when The Atlanta Pops Orchestra returns to The Grand on Saturday, December 10th at 7:00 p.m. This year's program, under the direction of Dr. Jason Altieri, features a blend of contemporary and familiar holiday classics.

"The annual holiday concert is a Cartersville tradition, and it is a great way to kick off the holiday season", says theatre Programs Coordinator, Terri Cox.  "This will be our eighth year featuring The Atlanta Pops, and we will have some our favorite traditional pieces as well as some selections that will bring back childhood Christmas memories." Featured songs include, "I Wonder As I Wander", "Jingle Bells Hoedown", "White Christmas", and "Sleigh Ride" among other familiar holiday selections.

Cox added that The Grand has a unique relationship with The Pops in which the orchestra works with vocalists from the community.  This year's soloist is local soprano, Laura Hettinger.  Hettinger is a recent graduate of Kennesaw State University with a degree in vocal performance.  She will be singing "Gesu, Bambino" and "O, Holy Night" in classical style and a lighter piece—"The Christmas Waltz" as well as leading the audience in a holiday sing-a-long.

Tickets are going fast and patrons are advised to call early.  Orchestra level tickets are $25 and balcony level seats are $20. This is a reserved seating event. Purchase your tickets at The Grand Theatre ticket office, located at 7 North Wall Street in downtown Cartersville, or by calling 770-386-7343. Visa, MasterCard, Discover Card, and American Express are accepted. The ticket office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Grand Theatre also has four-event season tickets available for the rest of the series, and they make a great holiday gift. Remaining shows include The Return: Beatles Tribute Band on February 4th, comedian Henry Cho on March 3rd, and country music artist Pam Tillis on April 21st. More show information and video samples can be found by visiting The Grand Theatre website at www.thegrandtheatre.org or on Facebook at "Century Bank Entertainment Series at The Grand Theatre".

CTC Radiography Class Does it Again!

Media release: For the third graduating class in a row, Chattahoochee Technical College's most recent Radiography graduates have all passed the national licensure exam on the first attempt. While the exam standards require a 75 percent to pass, CTC's average was 91.

The 16 students who completed their studies over the summer were the seventh class to graduate from the program that began at the North Metro Campus in 2005. Students complete 1500 clinical hours and take nine radiography courses throughout the 21 month program. Students must achieve 57 competencies in order to sit for the national registry exam through the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).

"It is a wonderful accomplishment and speaks well of the students preparation and dedication," said Program Director Deanne Collins. "These students are now equipped to take that next step whether it is continuing their education or joining the workforce."

3,000 expected for Community Christmas luncheon

Media release: For the third consecutive year, local residents are gearing up for the annual Toyo Tire Community Christmas Luncheon which will be held on Saturday, December 17. In addition to the generous contribution of Toyo Tire North America, volunteers are now working to raise money for the luncheon which is expected to draw 3,000 people. While donations are being accepted, community members are also encouraged to purchase a Shop Bartow Discount Card for $25 which includes admittance to a Parade Party on December 1, as well as discounts at a variety of Bartow County retail stores and restaurants.

"This year's Community Christmas Luncheon is expected to draw our biggest crowd ever," said event chair Tina Jennings. "Toyo Tire has provided a very generous donation for the luncheon every year, but additional funds are needed in order to serve every single person who walks through the door – which is our goal. We don't want anyone to walk away hungry. We are able to raise money through corporate and individual donations, but we hope that the Shop Bartow Discount Cards will also be a great way to generate funds this year. Not only is the money going towards a worthy cause, but there are tons of great benefits to purchasing the cards."

The Shop Bartow Discount cards are available for purchase at WBHF Radio, Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce, and United Community Bank in Adairsville. Presentation of the Shop Bartow Discount card, along with an advance RSVP, merits entrance into the Parade Party at Stonewall Manor on Thursday, December 1. Held from 4:30-9:30 p.m., the Parade Party is an ideal place to watch the Christmas Parade, and enjoy great food and beverages. An open buffet will be available from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

In addition to the Parade Party, card holders also enjoy a variety of discounts at restaurants and retail shops around the county. Examples include Antonino's, Agan's Bakery, c.a.n.o.p.y, LuLu's, Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse, The Olive Branch Boutique, Pinky Toes, Swheat Market, and many, many more. A complete list of all participating venues and the specific discounts being offered may be found at www.bartowbusinessconnection.com.
