Bartow County Sheriff's Office receives Rx Drug Drop Box from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators

Media release: Sheriff Clark Millsap is excited to announce that the Bartow County Sheriff's Office has received an Rx Drug Drop Box from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators (NADDI) through a grant from Endo Pharmaceuticals, and the National Rx Drug Drop Box program.

Most Prescription medications should not be flushed down the toilet or thrown into the trash. The NADDI Rx Drug Drop Box program addresses a vital public health and safety issue. Medicines that languish in home medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misues, and/or abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. Studies show that individuals that abuse prescription drugs  often obtain them from family and friends, including from home medicine cabinets.

Through this grant from Endo Pharmaceuticals, the NADDI Rx Drug Drop Box program will increase the ability for patients to easily and properly dispose of unneeded, expired, or unwanted medicines. There is a great need for a permanent solution in which these medicines can be properly disposed of quickly and anonymously.

The secure drop box is located permanently at the Bartow County Sheriff's Office Administration lobby where patients can walk in and deposit their unwanted, expired medicines during normal business hours which are 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday through Friday.

These unwanted drugs will then be destroyed in the proper manner.

Sheriff Millsap encourages everyone in our community to participate in this program that has any unwanted, unneeded and expired pharmaceuticals.

Booth Executive Director Seth Hopkins honored by the Rotary Club of Bartow County with W. Lee Arrendale Award of Vocational Excellence.

Media release: Booth Western Art Museum Executive Director Seth Hopkins has been honored by the Rotary Club of Bartow County for the 2013 W. Lee Arrendale Award of Vocational Excellence.

Hopkins is the Executive Director of Georgia Museums, Inc. and Director of Booth Western Art Museum. Prior to entering the museum profession, Hopkins worked in the fields of journalism, public relations, and telecommunications management. Hired in 2000 to establish the Booth Museum, Hopkins' drive, leadership capabilities and ensuing success, positioned him to take on more responsibility as executive director of Georgia Museums, Inc. Under Hopkins vision and leadership, Georgia Museums has grown to be an important cultural leader in Georgia, encompassing over 250,000 sq. ft. of world-class museum space. His leadership has defined and impacted the community in a significant way. Last year alone, these museums served over 258,000 visitors including school children from all over Northwest Georgia.  Both Booth and Tellus were each awarded the exclusive distinction of Smithsonian Institution Affiliation.

Hopkins currently serves as President of Museums West Consortium; an organization made up of 13 Western art museums in North America and is frequently called upon to speak at other institutions and jury art exhibitions. Hopkins was honored in September 2010 with the Kennesaw State University Flourish Award as Outstanding Arts Leader. In September 2012, Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau awarded Hopkins the Economic Development Leadership Award. He has been a Rotarian for the past 19 years in three different clubs and currently serves as the Program Chair for the Rotary Club of Bartow County.

Hopkins won the award from the club, and will also go on to compete for the award with other club Rotarians at the district level.  The W. Lee Arrendale Award for Vocational Excellence is one of the highest awards presented annually by Rotary District 6910.
