Bartow to test new voter check-in process during Tuesday's special election: (Media release) A pilot project that will create a more efficient and accurate check-in process for voters who cast their ballot in person on Election Day gets a test run in Bartow County during Tuesday's special election to fill the House District 12 seat. How it work: If a voter's driver's license number is already recorded in the poll book, poll workers will scan the bar code on the back of the voter's Georgia driver's license or state identification card to immediately find the voter in the poll book and check them in to vote. This process will eliminate the need to manually look up every voter in the poll book. Secretary of State Brian Kemp certified, on an interim basis, a bar code scanner which has been initially tested by the Kennesaw State University Center for Election Systems. The bar code scanners will be first used and tested in Bartow County on May 11.Voters in Northeast Bartow will go to the polls Tuesday. The candidates: Republican Rick Jasperse and Truett Moss II, and Democrat Jerry Nally.
-Note from Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk: "The Bartow County Board of Elections and Voter Registration has completed an audit of the voter registration records we keep on file and discovered that some of them need to be updated. Any voters who need to update their registration records will receive a new card in the mail along with some information about the process. No voter will be refused the right to vote because they neglected to return the card to us. We will simply contact them again for the information. Any inquiries about this process should be directed to (770) 387-5098.

City code enforcement targeting neglected pools
(Media release) The City of Cartersville Code Enforcement officers are committed to providing safe, healthy and attractive living conditions for all residents of Cartersville, by ensuring the City Codes are maintained. Even with Code Enforcement officers continually monitoring the city, not every violation or concern is visible; therefore, your attention to detail is always appreciated and can help make our city much safer and more attractive. It has been brought to our attention that the current foreclosure and vacant housing problems have left some yards unsafe if no one is maintaining the property, particularly yards with pools. Pools must be secured with a required barrier such as a fence. Pools, when left un-maintained, can create safety and health concerns. If you see any abandoned pools that need attention, please contact the City of Cartersville Code Enforcement Department. Contact: Code Enforcement - Tim Jones at 770.387.5610 or Chris Williams at 770.606.6992.
