Chase ends in Bartow County as 24-year-old suspect surrenders, then apparently OD's.

(From a media report) Johnnie Elbert Turner surrendered Tuesday evening following a chase that started in Polk County, sped through Floyd County and ended finally near the Waffle House at U.S. 41 and Grassdale Road, Bartow sheriff's report show. Turner was taken to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment of an apparent overdose, reports show. Turner, who was driving a 1997 Silver Kia Rio, was wanted on charges of aggravated assault. He tossed a gun from the window of his car prior to surrendering; the weapon was recovered, according to Sheriff Clark Millsap's release.

-Suspect pleads guilty to bank robberies in Calhoun, N.C., W.Va., and Mich.: Anthony Ray Artrip, 38, of Ashland, Ky., pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal district court to the armed robbery of banks in Calhoun and in four other states. Details

If you've driven by Barron Stadium this week, you've probably noticed the new artificial turf is

down. Says Todd Wofford, Parks Superintendent with Rome-Floyd Parks and Rec: The turf should be completed next week. "The weather has been good for construction and we're on schedule," he says.

"The carpet (turf) is almost down and they are packing the gravel in now and the turf crew should be

out of here next week. We are working to be completed with everything by Aug. 6." Click Hometown
