New Hilton Gardens Inn to open in Cartersville by June 1

The hotel "is presently accepting reservations for arrival June 1," according to the Web site (click). The new inn has been rising rapidly just off Main Street between I-75 and U.S. 41.

-The Hilton is just down the highway from Fairfield Inn & Suites, which opened in mid-2008 right off the Main Street exit of  I-75.

-'Unveiling' of Georgia Northwestern Technical College set for Friday: The merger of Coosa Valley Technical College and Northwestern Technical College is creating the new name and brand. The unveiling is set for 9 a.m. Friday at the  Rome campus.

March 24/Reverse raffle, dinner to benefit The Foundation of North Metro Tech: The annual event raises much-needed funds for college programs and services.  Dinner begins at 6 p.m., the raffle at 6:30 and is held in the Economic Development Building No. 400 on the NMTC campus.  Tickets are $100, which includes dinner for two and a chance at the $5,000 Grand Prize.  Sponsorships are available for $1,000, which includes reserved seating for 20 as well as recognition the night of the dinner and in all printed materials and publicity.  For more information, call 770-975-4075.

Rakes named chief operating officer at Cartesville Medical

(Media release) Lori Rakes, FACHE has been named COO, Chief Operating Officer of Cartersville Medical Center. As COO, Rakes is responsible for the management of laboratory, radiology, anesthesia and respiratory therapy services as well as several non clinical departments. She is involved in the strategic planning and business development for future growth of the hospital.

Rakes comes to Cartersville Medical Center from Montgomery Regional Hospital where she served as Associate Administrator and Ethics & Compliance Officer for the last five years. Prior to that role she served as Quality and Resource Management Director at Montgomery Regional.

"We are honored to have Lori join our Administrative Team, we feel that she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our staff along with a commitment to provide the best in patient care and satisfaction", said Keith Sandlin, CEO of Cartersville Medical Center. "We consider ourselves very fortunate to have found someone with such a high level of experience and education who was willing to relocate to this area", said Sandlin.

Rakes is a registered nurse, she received her undergraduate degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, her master's in health administration from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. She is a registered nurse (RN), a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), a certified facilitator of management and leadership learning systems, a Rotarian and a Paul Harris Fellow. Rakes is married with three children and has recently relocated to the Cartersville area.

Tatum named human resources VP at Cartersville Medical

(Media release) Robbie Tatum has been named Vice President of Human Resources for Cartersville Medical Center. In her role as Vice President, Tatum oversees all recruitment, selection, placement and retention of employees. She is also responsible for development and implementation of all HR initiatives, including diversity, healthy work environment, succession planning and employee engagement. 

She is responsible for approximately 696 employees within the Cartersville Medical Center system including the main facility as well as The Hope Center and the Acworth Imaging Center in Acworth, Georgia. "We are excited to have someone with her energy, experience and knowledge of HR management", said Keith Sandlin, CEO. "She brings a wealth of information about Human Resources along with a passion to offer the best for our employees."

Tatum comes to Cartersville from Palms West Hospital in West Palm Beach, Florida where she served as Director of Human Resources. Prior to her most recent position, she served as VP of Human Resources at Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tenn., for five years.  

She received her undergraduate degree in HR management from Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia and her master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. Tatum served in the United States Marine Corp and the US Army for thirteen years leaving as a Second Lieutenant Personnel Manager with the US Army. 

Tatum is married with three children and has relocated to the Cartersville area.
