National TV, fanatic Friday webcast part of NAIA's big week in Rome
-Tuesday's big news was the extension of the NAIA's contract with Rome/Floyd County to bring its national football championship to Barron Stadium through December 2015. It is expected to generate $10 million in economic impact, on top of the $5 million from the '08-10 games here ($1.5 million in '08, $1.8 million in '09).
-Also big: Securing Russell Athletics are title sponsor for the length of the NAIA contract and game-day contract with Dr. Pepper. NAIA Release
-This year's game is being moved to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 18, giving Rome/Floyd a day-night appearance on national television. It also should mean visitors will stay in town a day longer with the game ending at 7:30 or later. This year's events:
- Dec. 16: Fellowship of Christian Athletes Champions of Character Breakfast, 8 a.m., The Forum.
- Dec. 17: Banquet of Champions, 6:30 p.m., The Forum.
- Dec. 17: Fans party and Victory Sports Network live webcast at Town Green immediately after the banquet. Expect an ESPN "Game Day" setting
- Dec. 18: The 2010 NAIA National Championship Game, 4:30 p.m.
