Bank report: Dip in overall deposits, major changes in past year.
-Overall deposits in Floyd, Bartow, Gordon and Polk banks slipped from 2 to 11% as of June 30. The year also saw big changes as two banks were closed and reopened under new ownership while three other bank presidents were ousted.

-Oct. 9/The Second Annual Cartersville Fire Safety Open House will be from noon until 4 p.m. Just bring your families to Cartersville Fire Station One downtown at the corner of Erwin and Church streets. While there, you can see demonstrations, puppet shows and check out the fire safety house. The fire safety house is used to show children and adults how to escape their homes in the event of a fire, and is taken around to the schools throughout the school year. Door prizes will be handed out at the open house event, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, flash lights and more. Light refreshments and free blood pressure checks will also be provided.
