Applications sought for 2012 Citizens' Law Enforcement Academy

Media release: Sheriff Clark Millsap is pleased to announce that the Bartow
County
Sheriff's Office is preparing to begin the 2012 Citizens' Law
Enforcement Academy. We are now accepting applications, which may be
obtained at the Sheriff's Office. The program (which will meet on
Thursday evenings and one Saturday) begins on Thursday October 11, 2012
and will meet ten different dates ending on Thursday December 13, 2012.

Academy members will be exposed to every aspect of Law Enforcement
duties including Firearms, Personal Safety, Jail Procedures,
Administrative Duties, Criminal Investigations, Patrol Division
Operations, 911 Operations, Court Services, Warrants and Civil Division,
Crime Scene Investigation, Canine Operations, C.P.R. Certification,
Terrorism and much more. Participants will have the opportunity to ride
with the deputies answering calls for service, work in the jail, and
even work the courthouse security.

Citizens who desire to qualify for the program must complete and return
the application for processing and background check completion. The cost
of the course is $25.00, which covers the cost of the materials for the
course.

According to Sheriff Millsap, "this program has been a success in the
past, and the primary benefit of the program is building a closer
relationship with the citizens we serve."

Captain Mike Shinall is the Program Coordinator and can answer any
questions. He may be contacted at 770-382-5050 extension 6069 or by
