(Media Release) Joining 1,600 volunteers coordinated by Team Rubicon, a group of healthcare and emergency personnel from Cartersville Medical Center, Bartow County EMS and Bartow County Fire Department provided first aid and emergency transport services to victims and volunteers today at one of the sites of the category EF-3 tornado that ripped through Bartow and Gordon counties earlier this week.
Although the actual storm has ended, the effects of its wrath may just be beginning. Aware of the incredible tasks ahead for the Adairsville community, the team quickly deployed on Friday, making plans and gathering medical supplies and other resources needed to serve in disaster cleanup situations. Because injuries can easily happen when volunteers use chain saws and other equipment needed to remove trees and other debris, nurses, paramedics, firefighters and other support personnel arrived this morning, ready to work. The team was onsite all day, located in a tent marked as "Cartersville Medical Center" and is prepared to continue providing services Sunday and Monday.
Patients treated today had injuries that mostly included puncture wounds and lacerations. One volunteer had a crushing injury to the hand and was referred to the emergency department for further evaluation.
