Chattahoochee Tech hosting National Competition; Red Cross holding local Blood Drives

Chattahoochee Tech to host National Landscape Competition. Students, faculty, industry professionals and others will begin their descent on Chattahoochee Technical College, North Metro Campus as the first events of the 2010 Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) Student Career Days have begun. An estimated 850 environmental horticulture students and 160 faculty will represent 63 colleges and universities over three days of workshops, networking, and competition at the 34th annual event.> PLANET

Floyd Healthcare Foundation launches $3 million campaign to raise money for the expansion and relocation of The Breast Center at Floyd. A number of community leaders, including ChairmanGardner Wright and Vice Chair Kay Chumbler, have been tapped to lead the fundraising efforts. Expanded services include additional capabilities for the mobile mammography unit along with the planned expansion of services as The Breast Center relocates to the third floor of the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center currently under construction.> Floyd

 

Rome Braves rained out; Pete Van Wieren to throw "first pitch" April 16

The rain followed the Braves from Rome to Kannapolis, raining out their first game of the season. The teams will square off in a double-header on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Radio coverage available on 95.5 FM The Ridge. The Braves have announced that Pete Van Wieren, legendary "Voice of the Braves" for 33 years, will throw out the "first pitch" at their home opener next Friday, April 16.> Sports

The American Red Cross is asking donors to "Cruise Into Summer" by donating blood or platelets. (Media Release)  The campaign, which runs from April 1 to June 30, 2010, gives each person who presents to donate blood or platelets with the Red Cross an opportunity to enter a drawing for the chance to win a cruise for two. By donating early in the season, blood donors can donate two or more times during the summer months, helping ensure blood is available for patients throughout this critical time.

Blood can be safely donated every 56 days. Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.

-Benefit Concert-Hope for Haiti will be Saturday, April 11 at 6 p.m. at The Grand Theatre. Choruses from all over Bartow County will perform gospel selections. Tickets are $15 and a love offering will be collected. All proceeds benefit Haiti Disaster Relief.
