Rotary Club of Etowah donates mentoring kits

Media release: For the second consecutive year, Rotary Club of Etowah has used a District Simplified Grant to help with the production of mentoring kits to be given to the local school systems. This year, the club was able to provide two kits for each of the five local, public middle schools – Adairsville, Cass, Cartersville, South Central and Woodland. The kits contained various games and activities that shall be made available for mentors and their mentees to enjoy.

"Last year, under the leadership of past president Russell Hunt, our club applied for and received the District Simplified Grant and we were able to provide mentoring kits to each of the local 14 elementary and primary schools in the city and county," said 2012-2013 Rotary Club of Etowah President Laura Allgood. "With the funds received from the grant, as well as our own club's financial contribution, we were able carry that project into this year and provide a variety of games, activities and books to each of the local middle schools. Our club supports a number of local nonprofits and charities; we were excited to be able to provide this donation for the many great mentors in our community to utilize, and to help enhance that one-on-one relationship of a mentor and his mentee."

Established in 2002, Rotary Club of Etowah meets every Tuesday at 7:30 am at Barbecue Street. Comprised of various community members ranging from nonprofit directors, financial advisors, healthcare professionals and more, the weekly meetings consist of networking with fellow members and guests, as well as an educational program. Adhering to Rotary International's main mission of 'Service Above Self,' Rotary Club of Etowah provides both financial contributions and hands-on volunteer assistance to numerous local charitable organizations, and also supports Rotary International's efforts to eradicate polio.
