Unity National's former operations center on the market:  The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. is selling the 9,000-square-foot former operations center of Unity National Bank. Unity closed in March and its bank offices are now part of Bank of the Ozarks. Click

Hospital blood drives giving a boost to local supply: (Media Release) In addition to providing life-saving medical services, Cartersville Medical Center is giving back to the community in another capacity: blood donations. According to Blood Assurance, blood donors at Cartersville Medical Center ranked as the second largest donor group in the Blood Assurance service region. 564 units of blood were collected in 2009 at blood drives hosted by Cartersville Medical Center. Blood Assurance, the non-profit regional blood center, is the only provider of blood for Cartersville Medical Center. The organization hosts more than 2,000 blood drives each year and collects approximately 100,000 units of blood for use by area hospitals. In 2009, Cartersville Medical Center used 2,583 units to treat patients in need of blood transfusions. To be eligible to donate, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. -Rockmart's 'Hometown 1220' on the way; Shannon returns:By the middle of next week, you'll be hearing a new sound, an old friend and a new direction at 1220 AM WZOT. The station will be known as Hometown 1220, playing classic country music, midday broadcasts of conservative talker Michael Savage and Rockmart High football games. Anchoring the morning show beginning at 6 each weekday will be Bob Shannon, right, a longtime Northwest Georgia radio personality most recently in Dalton and previously at WGAA in Cedartown. Click

-Rome Beer Festival returns Sept. 18: The third edition again benefits the Rome Area Council for the Arts and is set for 1-5 p.m. at Heritage Park. The 2010 edition will feature 50-plus beers.
