Advance voting for runoff ends today at 5 p.m.

-Aug. 6: Family Fun Night, downtown Cartersville, from 7:30-11:30 p.m., sponsored by Coosa Valley Credit Union. Music, games and at twilight, "The Wizard of Oz."

-Aug. 7: Tellus Science Museum's "Night at the Museum 2010" from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. From astronauts to paleontologists, the galleries of the museum will be filled with some of the brightest minds in science. -Steak N Shake on target for Sept. 15 opening: Several hundred people lined up Thursday to apply for one of the 110 or so jobs to be filled as Steak N Shake opens on Turner McCall Boulevard by Sept. 15. Wayne Robinson, who with Brooke Temple is bringing the popular burger-and-shake franchise to Rome, says the restaurant will open with more traditional hours at first and then expand to 24/7 within three months. Applicants were at the modular building in front of the construction site by 8 a.m. Thursday and some hung on even during the midday heat (98 degrees).
