City of Cartersville’s First Citizen Academy is Complete

Media Release– On March 26th, 2013, the City of Cartersville completed its first Citizen's Academy.  Twenty-one residents of Cartersville concluded the eight week program, which covered the functions and services provided by the City government, and included tours of several municipal facilities, such as the new Public Safety Headquarters and the Water Treatment Plant.  The Academy was an initiative of the City Council.  "It's important for the citizens to know the wide variety of services provided by the City.  I'm proud of the work we do and we wanted to create another opportunity to share it," said City Council Member Louis Tonsmeire.

"We couldn't be more pleased with the inaugural class.  Overall, things went very smoothly and our participants showed a genuine eagerness to learn about their local government.  They asked great questions throughout the Academy and provided valuable feedback on how to improve the class for future iterations", said Tom Quist, Assistant to the City Manager, who coordinated the Academy.

According to evaluations completed by members of the Academy, the program was well received.  The average rating of the class, on a scale of one to seven, with one being "hated it" and seven being "loved it" was 6.95.

"Now that we have completed the first edition of the Academy, we will take some time to evaluate and plan improvements for our next class.  Tentatively, we are hoping to offer the Academy again early next year", reported Quist.  "We had a great time with the class and we want to thank them for investing their time and energy into the program."

The members of the first Citizen's Academy will be recognized at the upcoming City Council meeting on Thursday, April 4th.
