CTC students help give Bartow County College and Career Academy a fresh look

 

Media Release: Interiors students from Chattahoochee Technical College have been collaborating to revamp areas of the building of the former Cass High School in Cartersville from a typical-looking high school into a more modern-looking home for the Bartow County College and Career Academy. The advising-students are responsible for creating solutions that meet not only functional requirements, but also budget stipulations for the facility, which will open its doors to its first classes this fall.

 

The project is being completed in phases; the initial phase, which is now complete, consisted of selecting interior and exterior paint, and designing new signs for the college. Currently, the team is developing ideas to transform the look of the hallways. The project will conclude with the selection of colors, carpet and furniture recommended for a new student center.

 

 "We have had some great feedback from members of the renovations committee and look forward to a continued partnership," said Ginger Burton, Interiors Instructor.

 

Offered at the both diploma and degree level, the Interiors Program provides a foundation for career opportunities in such areas as the retail sector, architecture and design firms, sales of specialty products, visual merchandising and in several niche areas. Both options provide education in the basics of design fundamentals, color theory, floor plan arrangement, window treatments, material selection, drafting and drawing and lighting. There is also an emphasis on business practices for entrepreneurial students wanting to start a business after graduation. Students focus on both presentation and technological skills before taking part in internships within the industry. Classes are offered at the college's Mountain View Campus in Marietta.

As a part of their studies, students have offered suggestions for enhancing the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce building, designed the new interior for the Community Bank of Pickens County, presented re-designs of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and the rental space of the Earl Strand Theatre in Marietta, remodeled the Appalachian Campus Student Center, provided guidance on space redesigns for the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and participated in both the Bent Tree Tour of Homes and the Woodstock Holiday Tour of Homes.

The Interiors Program will be one of the programs featured in a series of information sessions scheduled for July 15-17.
