Wednesday updates

Gas prices starting summer climb; Rome makes highest price list

>The good news is we were paying $3.73 a gallon for unleaded gasoline this time a year ago. The bad news: Now as the summer travel season arrives, prices are jumping by 30 or more cents a gallon compared to a month ago. This chart from www.georgiagasprices.com shows how prices have jumped each summer in the state of Georgia. Prices of $2.24 a gallon have been spotted in Rome already.

>Context: The  jump surprises analysts with AAA: "Notwithstanding a recent run-up in wholesale prices, retail price increases defy the fundamentals that tell us we still have weak demand, a surplus of oil, and healthy output from refineries; but some analysts believe that news last week from the U.S. Department of Labor reporting a decline in unemployment benefit claims points to emerging recovery and growing demand for fuel in the near term," said Gregg Laskoski, managing director of public relations, AAA Auto Club South. New Highland 75 Web site touts project's first phase:

Highland 75, Cartersville-Bartow County's 707-acre industrial/corporate park, has a new Web home at www.highland75.com. The site focuses on the project's first phase, covering 166 acres and almost 2.3 million square feet of building area. Utilities are to be done this spring and updates to Zion Road will begin soon. Tuesday night, Melissa Lemmon, executive director of Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development, met with some of the project neighbors to brief them on the project. On the agenda was the introduction of TPA Realty, the site's new development partner. The overall plan calls for distribution, call centers, research and development and other uses under 8.4 million square feet of space. The development team is touting the site's proximity to I-75 as well as the adjacencies to Atlanta and Chattanooga. The build-out should take 10 years; parcels range from 20 to more than 100 acres.
