Chamber starts Adapting to a New Business Climate seminar; site: new Hilton Garden Inn

The Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce and the Bartow Employer Committee are teaming up for a seminar on developing "open communication" skills to assist business leaders make better decisions on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 8-11:45 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn off East Main Street. It is the first of four seminars, now through April 22, focusing on "Adapting to the New Business Climate." For more on the chamber seminars, click Business

Euharlee woman named area engineer for DOT, covering Bartow and Gordon counties

(From a media release) Melissa Wesley has been promoted to area engineer for Bartow, Cherokee and Gordon counties, according to Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Kent Sager. Based in the DOT Area One Office at 874 Peeples Valley Road in Cartersville, Wesley will be responsible for all construction and maintenance activities in these three counties. A native of Miami, Wesley received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Architecture Engineering from the University of Miami in 1994.

"Lisa brings both outstanding judgment and experience to our Area One Office, which will greatly benefit all users of Georgia DOT's transportation system in Bartow, Cherokee and Gordon counties," said Sager. ""We are fortunate to have a professional of her abilities serving our Department."

Wesley began working for Georgia DOT in 1995 as Transportation Engineer II and spent the following 14 years in Northwest Georgia.  In 1997, she was promoted to construction project engineer where she managed several major GDOT highway projects. She was selected to serve as Assistant Area Engineer in 2000. She served in that capacity until her promotion to Area Engineer effective Tuesday.  Lisa resides in Euharlee with her family, including one son, 8, and twin daughters, 7.

-Sept. 10: Adapting to a New Business Climate seminars begin: The Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce and the Bartow Employer Committee are co-sponsor a seminar on developing "open communication" skills to assist business leaders make better decisions. It will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 8-11:45 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn off East Main Street at 24 Liberty Drive. Internationally-acclaimed speakers Wayne Morris and Ron Younker will conduct the seminar, entitled Attracting, Hiring and Retaining High Performance Employees in These Challenging Times. The seminar will focus on a process to enable employers to hire and develop high performance employees. It is designed for business leaders, supervisors, managers, and human resource personnel. The seminar is the first in a series of four workshops entitled, Adapting to the New Business Climate. Other seminars will be held Oct. 29, Jan. 28, and April 22, from 8-11:45 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn. Workshops are open to the public. -Sept. 12: Old Fashion Day at The Old Cassville Post Office, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Take a unique historical tour of The Old Cassville Post Office Museum as members of the Cassville Historical Society portray many of Cassville's prominent early citizens in period attire. In addition, tours of the historic Cassville Methodist Church are available upon request. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Established by the Georgia Legislature in 1832 to serve as the county seat for Cass County, Cassville was carved from former Cherokee Indian territory and quickly became the judicial, educational and cultural center of north Georgia.
