Former lawman charged with rape, sexual battery: (MR) Bartow County sheriff's investigators have arrested a former Cartersville man on rape, sexual battery charges. According to Sheriff's Clark Millsap, Vincent Michael Palmarini, 38, of Skylark Circle, Chatsworth, surrendered Wednesday afternoon after being charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual battery.  Investigators say Palmarini allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old woman near Adairsville on Nov. 17. Palmarini, a former law enforcement officer, is being held in the Bartow County Jail pending a bond hearing in magistrate court Thursday.

Snowy Saturday in the forecast:

-Friday night: A slight chance of rain before 1 a.m., then a 50% chance of rain and snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.

-Saturday: 70% chance of rain and snow before 1 p.m., then a chance of rain. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Gusts to 15 mph. Saturday night: 26 degrees. More weather below.

John McClellan's take on the new high school football regions:

-Cedartown's new region includes schools in Columbus and LaGrange.

-Cartersville is lumped in  with Gilmer, Pickens and Chattanooga/Dalton schools.

-Rome is in s region that stretches to Alpharetta and Forsyth County, and that doesn't include the Paulding County schools.

-Darlington's region keeps who they had and adds Mount Paran.

-Schools can petition for a new region in the same classification through Dec. 15.
