What's ahead in Bartow County:

-Now-Oct. 9: The nonprofit National Fire Protection Association is promoting "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With!" as the theme for this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, Oct. 3-9.  NFPA has been the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week for 88 years, and the City of Cartersville Fire Department supports the campaign. -Oct. 7: Cartersville City Council, 7 p.m. Hear it live on WBHF 1450 AM or Web cast here on Bartow Headlines. Work session begins at 6 p.m.

-Oct. 7: Cartersville City Board of Education meeting, 6 p.m.

-Oct. 7: Tickets are now available for the sixth annual Legacy Awards Luncheon – the preeminent fundraising event hosted by the Chattahoochee Tech Foundation. This year's ceremony honors Andrew Young, former United States Ambassador and mayor of Atlanta. Click

-Oct. 9: Help wanted: Vista Metals Georgia job fair seeks 50 workers. At least 50 new jobs are tied to the $25 million investment Vista Metals Georgia is making in Adairsville. The company will be working with the Georgia Department of Labor to recruit skilled workers. The job fair is set for 9 a.m. until noon at DOL's Cartersville Career Center, 19 Felton Place.

-Oct. 9/The Second Annual Cartersville Fire Safety Open House will be from noon until 4 p.m. Just bring your families to Cartersville Fire Station One downtown at the corner of Erwin and Church streets.  While there, you can see demonstrations, puppet shows and check out the fire safety house.  The fire safety house is used to show children and adults how to escape their homes in the event of a fire, and is taken around to the schools throughout the school year.  Door prizes will be handed out at the open house event, including fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, flash lights and more.  Light refreshments and free blood pressure checks will also be provided. Details: Mark Hathaway, Fire Marshal, 770-387-5636.
