Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force arrests four individuals on various weapons and drug charges

On Friday, January 4, 2013 Agent(s) with the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force (FBI Safe Streets Task Force), officers from the Cartersville Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) arrested four individuals for various weapons and drug charges.

According to Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force Commander Mark Mayton the task force was contacted by the City of Cartersville Police Departments Uniformed Patrol Division after an individual purchased a handgun from another individual in Cartersville after responding to a Craigs list add. Captain Mayton said that after purchasing the handgun the concerned citizen contacted law enforcement to check the gun out only to find that the gun had been stolen in Bartow County. The citizen informed agents that during the purchase of the handgun the suspect told him that he also had a "fully automatic" Panther arms AR-15 for sale. Captain Mayton said task force agents and officers then conducted a sting operation to purchase the automatic weapon. As a result of this operation the weapon was seized and a search warrant was executed at 112 North Erwin Street. During the operation agents seized two stolen firearms, Methamphetamine, and US Currency. After further investigation and reviewing reports task force agents discovered that both of the stolen firearms recovered were taken in a local burglary and an entering auto that occurred in December of last year. Of the four individuals arrested two were convicted felons and had active warrants for their arrest.

Chief Culpepper and Sheriff Millsap said that agents are still following information gathered during this investigation and expect more arrests in the near future.
