Business

-Zion Farms in foreclosure: Eight months after it appeared Zion Farms would be purchased by Animal Companion Rescue Foundation, much of the estate off Big Texas Valley  Road is in foreclosure. Two banks, United Community Banks Inc. and Citizens First Bank, hold ownership of different parts of the estate following Tuesday's court action. An auction appears to be the likely recourse. The animal rescue group apparently has a sliver as well; officials there couldn't be reached for comment following phone calls and e-mails Wednesday. The Cooper family put together an impressive menu of activities on the 310-acre farm from equestrian events to camps to dining and parent/child retreats and escapes. Most of those activities came to an end more than a year ago and the property was put on the market several times. The rescue foundation appeared to be the leading candidate to take control of the entire estate. Earlier in 2008, everyone from country superstars to the WinShape Foundation were said to be looking into buying the site. But as late as January of this year, a "must sale" listing appeared on LoopNet (click). The asking price in an earlier listing: $6 million.

Dining

-Cartersville's City Cellar & Loft to this month:  The new City Cellar & Loft at 110 S. Museum Drive in Cartersville is expected to open later this month. A "sampling" had been set for Saturday, the day of the downtown concert and car show, with a soft opening to follow Monday and Tuesday but those plans are on hold, says owner Robert Smith. Opening day was to be a week from today. A few last-minute issues are still being resolved, he says, adding that the complex will open this month. City Cellar is in the former site of M'vorneen's, an Irish pub that closed months ago.
