Friday updates

500-plus pack Gingrey healthcare town hall in Rome

-Lots of comments, and a few statements masked as questions about healthcare reform, dominated the 90-minute town hall session. The turnout surprised U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey and others, and the congressman said more would be held at larger venues. Four others are on the calendar in our region this month.

-The crowd: Very orderly with only one round of booing after one young man's unpopular comments. At least four officers were on hand Thursday.

-The comments: Speakers are worried about healthcare overall, including access, insurance and cost. They want change but perhaps not the current proposal.
