Bank of the Ozarks posts big second quarter results (bought Unity National). Plus: Business, political, weather updates

 

Bank of the Ozarks, successor to Unity National, reports second quarter net income of $10.9 million, up 14.6% from $9.5 million a year earlier. Details

-About buying Unity after it failed in March: "The company's net income and diluted earnings per common share for the first six months of 2010 included a first quarter gain, net of acquisition costs and applicable taxes, of $5.9 million, or $0.35 per diluted common share, from the March 26, 2010, acquisition of a Georgia bank pursuant to a purchase and assumption agreement with loss share agreements entered into with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp."

SPLASH Bartow makes a splash at Monday's  Rome Braves' game

About 100 members of SPLASH Bartow joined the crowd at State Mutual Stadium Monday night to watch the hometown Rome Braves take on the Charleston RiverDogs in the series finale. A late comeback bid by the Braves ended too soon; Charleston won, 3-2. (click) SPLASH Bartow is a faith-based community service group open to all ages formed more than a year ago. -Job fair today, Wednesday for new Pet Supermarket in Cartersville: Management, sales associates, and full- and part-time employee slots are available as Pet Supermarket prepares to open at Felton's Crossing shopping center. The job fair is being held at Hilton Garden Inn, 24 Liberty St. (off Main Street) from 4 until 7 this afternoon and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

- Voting begins in the 2010 People's Voice Awards in Bartow County: You can vote for your favorite restaurant, tourist attraction and retail site in the annual vote by the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
