Cartersville council meets tonight; murder arrest; police updates; holiday schedule; great weekend forecast

Big weekend begins Thursday in downtown Cartersville:

-July 1: Celebrating Freedom concert set: The Bartow Winds Community Concert Band announces its Celebrating Freedom Concert to be held on Thursday, July 1. The concert begins at 7 p.m., and will be held in Freedom Plaza in downtown Cartersville at the Depot. Admission is free but donations will be accepted supporting Advocates for Children.

-July 2: Family Fun Night movie, 7:30-11 p.m., downtown Cartersville. The Tooth Fairy.

-July 3: Stars, Stripes & Cartersville (several venues): The Cartersville Optimist Club and WBHF AM 1450 plan a full day, starting with a parade at 9 a.m. along Main Street. After the parade: Arts & Crafts, entertainment, food, and children's games and activities beginning at 10 a.m. At 8 p.m., a free concert, followed by a fireworks display at Dellinger Park. Click CVB

-July 3: Tom Clayton Memorial Car Show, sponsored by Advance Auto Parts, is in downtown Cartersville this Saturday from 5-8 p.m.

White resident, 21, charged with stabbing death: (Media release) Bartow County Sheriff's investigators have charged a 21-year-old man from White with murder. According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, on May 31, deputies responded to 131 Whispering Pines Lane in White about a man having been stabbed. Millsap said a fight had occurred at the home and as a result, Jason Champion was stabbed numerous times. Champion was taken to Floyd Medical Center, where he died on June 26. Investigators have charged Andrew Ray Bartholomew, 21, 131 Whispering Pines Lane, White, with one count of murder. Bartholomew, who was out of town when warrants were taken, surrendered at the Bartow County Jail on Tuesday. The investigation is continuing.

Acworth man faces three charges tied to assaults: A 20-year-old Acworth man has been arrested as part of an investigation into two assault cases. According to Sheriff Clark Millsap:

-Daniel T. Anderson of 68 Walnut Trail was arrested on Wednesday on charges of aggravated battery, false imprisonment and battery. He's awaiting a bond hearing at the county jail.

-The battery and imprisonment charges stem from a June 11-12 report from Spruce Lane involving a 49-year-old man who later was treated from a broken neck.

-The battery count was from November following another injury report.

-The investigation is continuing.
