Sept. 18-19: 35th Annual Arts Festival at Rose Lawn; registration deadline Friday  (Click) 
-The juried fine arts festival is held on the spacious lawn of historic Rose Lawn, the home of evangelist Sam Jones. The show includes fine paintings, jewelry, basketry, quilting, weaving, pottery, glass, photography, wood -- all original works by exhibitors with prize money being awarded in juried categories.

-Friday deadline: The deadline for artist applications is Friday.  Last year, the festival expanded its exhibits of quality arts and handcrafts to feature more than 100 regional artists – the most vendors in its history.  Click application

-Also at this year's festival: Victorian House Museum Tours are $4 adults. Food includes barbecue, fish and chicken, greens, apple dumplings, fat back and cornbread, sweet potatoes, roasted corn, stuffed potatoes, cotton candy, funnel cakes, ice cream and Cartersville Shaved Ice. AAUW Annual Book Sale also included. Also planned: Hospitality Heroes Awards and prestigious People's Choice Award Winners presented by the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau on Saturday. Hosted by Bartow County Government.

New-look Barron Stadium gets first test this Friday

-The Rome High Wolves have a football scrimmage game with Calhoun High this Friday, giving the new artificial turf and other enhancements at Barron Stadium a first test. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. What's interesting about the Yellow Jackets: They already play at home on artificial turf. RHS kicks off the regular season at Barron Stadium on Friday, Aug. 27 against Johns Creek. Game time: 8 p.m. The Shorter Hawks football team's home opener is Saturday, Sept. 25, vs. Georgetown of Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. RHS plays there the night before vs. Sequoyah High (8 p.m. start).
