May 23: Visitors bureau celebrates tourism month with public tour, lunch for $20 per person

Media release: In celebration of National Tourism Month, the Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau in conjunction with the Bartow Hospitality Association is hosting the Real Georgia Gem Tour on May 23, 2013.  The tour departing from and returning to the Clarence Brown Conference Center will highlight some of Bartow County's greatest treasures.

Bartow County ranks 23rd in the state for economic impact from domestic tourism expenditures with $137.75 million received in 2011.  Unofficial statistics from 2012 report an increase of 5% over 2011.

"Aggressive marketing efforts, stellar attractions, and location are key to our success," said CVB Deputy Director Regina Wheeler.  "What better way to celebrate, than by taking a day to introduce residents and business leaders to attractions across the county."  Wheeler added that the best form of promotion is great local recommendations.  This tour will provide insider tips about many area attractions and historical trivia.

The tour departs the Clarence Brown Conference Center at 8:30 AM and will include brief visits to Barnsley Gardens Resort, Bartow Beach and Allatoona Lake Visitor Center, Allatoona Pass Battlefield, Booth Western Art Museum, Tellus Science Museum, Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site, Downtown Cartersville, Euharlee Covered Bridge & Museum, Historic Kingston and Adairsville.  The bus will follow the Old Dixie Highway, returning to the conference center at 5 PM.

Lunch will be enjoyed at Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse in Euharlee – a three-time winner of the People's Choice Best Restaurant award presented by the CVB annually.  The tour is $20 per person and includes transportation, admission and lunch.  Space is limited and reservations are requested by May 22, and may be charged by phone 770-387-1357; Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are accepted.
