Bartow joins in celebrating Georgia's Arbor Day

Media release: Keep Bartow Beautiful will be partnering with Bartow Master Gardeners, Georgia Forestry Commission, and a host of other community partners to celebrate Georgia's Arbor Day on Friday, February 18. Celebrating both Valentine's Day and National Heart Month, the theme is "Garden with Heart—Plant a Tree." The color red is closely tied to Valentine's Day, and two of the tree selections will reflect that color theme. Also, gardening, and tree planting in particular, is a great heart-healthy hobby for all ages. Over 300 calories an hour are burned through gardening!

See the list of activities below:

  • Thursday, February 17 at 11:30 a.m. - ATCO Community Park Tree Planting near the little league fields with partners Sharp Top Trees, Cartersville Parks and Recreation, Keep Bartow Beautiful Board, Bartow Master Gardeners, Cartersville City Council, and Cartersville Women's Club. Two red maples will be planted. For more information, contact Greg Anderson at Cartersville Parks and Recreation, 770-607-6173 or ganderson@cityofcartersville.org
  • Thursday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m. - Mayor Matt Santini and the Cartersville City Council meeting will recognize Georgia's Arbor Day during the City Council meeting with the signing of a proclamation. Community partners will be present at this event. For more information, contact Richard Osborne at Cartersville Planning and Development, 770-387-5614 or rosborne@cityofcartersville.org
  • Friday, February 18—Bartow County Master Gardeners will pass out tree seedlings while supplies last, at five area locations—Bartow County Courthouse (Frank Moore Complex Building); Adairsville City Hall; Cartersville City Hall; Emerson City Hall; Kingston City Hall.  Tree selections this year include red maple, redbud; sawtooth oak, and longleaf pine.  Keep Bartow Beautiful purchases tree seedlings from the Georgia Forestry Commission for community distribution, and the Master Gardeners coordinate the effort to distribute and hand out the seedlings, while providing planting instructions.  Supplies are limited, one seedling per person, and they go fast!
  • Other community tree plantings will take place at Bartow County's Hamilton Crossing Park and at Douglas Street United Methodist Church.
