More than 700 new students, parents and other supporters will be converging on Chattahoochee Technical College Friday to attend CTC – Connect

Media release: More than 700 new students, parents and other supporters will be converging on Chattahoochee Technical College Friday to attend CTC – Connect. The day long orientation session has been redesigned to offer students a way to learn, engage and change as they prepare for Fall Semester.

"We have a good mix of students planning to attend," explained Executive Director of Admissions Missy Cusack. "For some this will be their first time attending college. Some students are the first in their families to attend college and others are transferring from other institutions or returning after years in the workforce."

The orientation, which is not mandatory for new students, has taken on a new focus in this format. Previously new students completed an online orientation that focused on registering for classes and required information, which is still available as an option. The newly expanded format is geared toward student success, explained Cusack.

"We want students to transition into their studies with all the information and resources they need," she said. "It is great preparation so those first few weeks of college are not so overwhelming."

Following a welcome from Chattahoochee Technical College President Dr. Ron Newcomb, students and their family members and supporters will learn about financial aid, resources, tips for college success and more. Students will also have an opportunity for advisement and registration for classes with a resource fair that will include tables on campus safety, opportunities for transfer to other colleges and universities, banking solutions and even places to live near campus. A meet and greet and parent session will cap off the orientation event.

"Response has been wonderful," said Student Affairs Specialist Erika Condon. "Our new students are excited about this new chapter in their lives and want to learn as much as they can about the college."

CTC Connect is scheduled for Friday, July 12 at the North Metro Campus. Fall semester begins August 19, 2013. Prospective students are encouraged to apply for admission prior to July 26. For more information, call 770-528-4545 or log on
