-More job losses: Rome lost 200 more jobs between August and September but the telling number came when comparing year-over-year data: down 2,600 jobs overall. The September report from the state Department of Labor offered no real hints of potential relief even with the Christmas holiday season hiring beginning.
-Rome's job losses, 6.2 percent, were the second highest in the state with nearby Dalton taking the top spot with 8.4 percent. Atlanta was third with 5.8 percent.
-The state's unemployment rate was unchanged at 10.1 percent in September vs. Augusta. The September 2008 number: 6.6 percent.
-The number of payroll jobs in September decreased 237,100, or 5.8 percent.
- The over-the-year losses came in manufacturing, trade, construction, and administrative support services, including temporary employment services.
-Educational and health services added 13,700 jobs over the year.

-Late fall is what we're hearing on the opening of the new Microtel on U.S. 41 in Cartersville. The project includes 71 rooms for the chain that also is part of Wyndham. It also includes Hawthorn Suites, which has accommodations in Rome.
-Hilton Gardens Inn's ribbon cutting, grand opening: Ceremonies begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday and continue until 7. At 24 Liberty Drive, Cartersville.
-What's the hottest movie ticket? Probably the first showings of Michael Jackson's "This Is It," based on the singer's rehearsals for what was to be his major stage show. Midnight showings are due in Rome and Cartersville on Oct. 27.
-Speaking of tickets: Tickets go on sale today for the Turkey Jam featuring Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert and KneckDown. The show is Nov. 25 at The Forum and are available for $20 at 333 on Broad or at Jefferson's.
Perdue in Rome, Cedartown, at Cass High today: Gov. Sonny Perdue's swing through the region includes a stop at Cedartown High (10:55-11:15 a.m.) and a stop at Cass High (12:30-12:50 p.m.). WRGA also has something about Perdue and a closed-to-the-public meeting with local lawmakers to discuss water issues.
New local business group for Linked In members: Hometown Headlines has created Rome Business Links, a new group directly linking Northwest Georgia business owners an operators with others in our market who also use Linked In. This group is open to all and is designed as a fast-reference directory. It is designed to serve as a "hub" for local Linked In users, much the same way as our Rome, Ga., Facebook Directory, which now has close to 2,100 members> Click
