(Media Release) In September, the Cartersville City Council voted to approve revisions to the Zoning Ordinance, including changes in the list of new allowed commercial uses. The changes are based on the 2030 Comprehensive Plan, research of other comparable Georgia cities, City Attorney comments, input from the Zoning Ordinance stakeholders committee, and comments from the Planning Commission and City Council.

Check cashing stores, fortune tellers, kennels, pawn shops and title pawn stores are now only allowed in the G-C (General Commercial) zoning district. Properties zoned G-C are typically located on Joe Frank Harris Parkway (U.S. Highway 41).

Day care facilities in the City of Cartersville are defined as institutions licensed or registered by the State of Georgia for seven (7) or more persons. Day care facilities are allowed in commercial zoning districts, and the owner/operator must obtain a City occupational tax certificate (business license). New day care facilities proposing to operate in residential zoning districts must first obtain a Special Use permit from the City.

Family day care in the City is defined as a home occupation in which care is provided for six (6) or fewer persons. Family day care is allowed in residential zoning districts, and the owner/operator must obtain a City occupational tax certificate (business license).
