Arrest made in shooting. 'Slight decrease' in Cartersville High SAT scores. What's ahead in Bartow County

Cartersville man charged with shooting another:

(Media release) The Bartow County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Cartersville man in connection with a Tuesday afternoon report of a person shot. According to Sheriff Clark Millsap: Deputies and investigators responded to 39 Crowe Springs Spur NW at 12:02 p.m. after a man reported that someone was shot at that address during a fight-- which was still going on. Millsap said Jim Combs of 39 Crowe Springs Spur was shot once in the leg. Combs was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment. Investigators arrested Berl Douglas Henson, 63, of Cartersville. Henson also received injuries during the fight and was treated and released from Cartersville Medical Center prior to being booked into the Bartow County Jail. Henson is being charged with Aggravated Assault and Criminal Trespassing. No information was available about why the fight occurred.

'Slight decrease' reported in Cartersville High SAT scores:

(Media release) The recent College Board release of SAT scores for last year's seniors shows a slight decline in average scores for Cartersville High graduates.  Although the average math score was up two points, from 487 to 489, Educational Testing System (ETS) reports indicate a 21 point decrease in overall composite scores for CHS.  A decline from 493 to 482 was seen in Verbal/Critical Reading and Writing averages went from 486 to 474.  Annual SAT results were released Monday by ETS.  State of Georgia SAT scores also showed a decline in all three areas of the testing:  critical reading (-2 points), math (-1 point), and writing (-4 points).  Nationally, overall SAT scores remained unchanged at a composite average of 1509. New name, new owner for outlets:

-Make that Calhoun Prime Outlets when referring to the more than 50-store-strong off-price retail center just off Interstate 75 and Ga. 53. Prime Outlets has been purchased by Simon Property Group in a $2.3 billion deal. Twenty other properties were included in the deal. A Simon representative says the company is "very excited to be the new owners as the center has a terrific mix of stores and a strong loyal following." The purchase increases Simon's hold on Georgia retail centers, including Town Center in Kennesaw, Phipps Plaza, the Mall of Georgia, Discover Mills and North Georgia Premium Outlets. Media release
