Cartersville nurses win service excellence award

(Media release)   Two Cartersville Medical Center nurses were honored, along with leadership from the hospital, at an awards luncheon yesterday at HCA/TriStar Health System in Brentwood, TN.

Toni Strawn, RNC and Nikki Bentley, RNC recently submitted an idea in the "Service Excellence" category of the HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) Innovator Awards.  The idea – a "patient newsletter" that is placed on patient lunch trays three times per week – won at the facility level and was then forwarded to compete at the TriStar division level.

The "CMC Messenger" keeps patients informed and allows patients to be more engaged with their care during their hospital stay.  While the goal is to sustain high levels of patient satisfaction, the newsletter is a simple, yet effective tool for communicating important information to patients.

Strawn and Bentley were thrilled to learn their idea won at the division level.  "It was such a surprise and beyond our expectations," said Bentley.  Strawn added, "We're excited that, not only is our idea in place and working, but it is also recognized as a 'best practice' by our parent company and will be shared with other facilities within the company."

Cartersville Medical Center leadership including Keith Sandlin, CEO, Miriam Eide, CNO and Rebecca Battle, Associate Administrator accompanied Strawn and Bentley at the awards presentation.  "I am extremely proud of Toni and Nikki for their accomplishment and for their everyday efforts to deliver the very best in patient care at our hospital," said Sandlin.

The winning idea will now move on to compete at the corporate level and the "Tommy" award, a crystal profile of HCA founder and innovator Dr. Thomas "Tommy" F. Frist, Jr.
