Brown Conference Center ribbon cutting today; public open house Oct. 11. Steak N Shake to open Sept. 22 in Rome; first in nation with new design

 

Cartersville's Clarenece Brown Conference Center's ribbon cutt is today:

-The first of two celebrations marking the opening of the Clarence Brown Conference Center is set for 11 this morning. A ribbon cutting will salute "the Bartow County government officials and representatives from Bartow County municipalities including Cartersville, Adairsville, Euharlee, White, Emerson and Kingston who committed to fund the project with $20 million SPLOST approved in 2008,"  according to a media release.

-A public grand opening is Oct. 10. The center is off Ga. 20 across from Georgia Highlands' campus.

-Construction began in July 2009. Under roof are 44,000 square feet with a ballroom that can hold more than 1,400 guests, a banquet hall seating 300; a 300-person lecture hall; and an amphitheater. Details

-It will become the home of the local convention and visitors bureau. Some of the first events:

Oct. 23: The Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Host City Committee for the MISS GEORGIA USA® and MISS GEORGIA TEEN USA® pageants offer the Runway Ready Expo to be held in conjunction with pageant orientation from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Oct. 28: Bartow chamber's 2010 Business Showcase:  "Roll Out the Red Carpet for Business in Bartow," the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce's annual business showcase is set for 3-7 p.m.

HCA honors two Cartersville Medical Center nurses for key ideas:

-Two Cartersville Medical Center nurses were honored, along with leadership from the hospital, at an awards luncheon yesterday at HCA/TriStar Health System in Brentwood, Tenn. Toni Strawn, RNC and Nikki Bentley, RNC recently submitted an idea in the "Service Excellence" category of the HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) Innovator Awards.  The idea – a "patient newsletter" that is placed on patient lunch trays three times per week – won at the facility level and was then forwarded to compete at the TriStar division level. Steak N Shake opening Sept. 22 -- and it will be a national first

Your wait for those shakes and steakburgers has been extended one week because of some equipment issues. But the good news is the opening day will be a famous first. -The store on Turner McCall will be the first in the nation to open with the new design. Several restaurants under construction will be completed after the Rome store opens with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. Sept. 22. Also:

-Corporate Steak N Shake executives will be on hand as will other franchisees.

-All 125 employees have been hired, says partner Wayne Robinson, and training continues. More than 4,000 people applied.

The total was $1,185,849,000, up 12.7 percent from $1,052,466,000 for August 2009. For the fiscal year (July and August), collections are up 8.6 percent.
